The Philadelphia Eagles signed DeVonta Smith to a 3-year contract extension worth $75 million. After seeing these numbers, the Miami Dolphins now have a good blueprint on what to pay Jaylen Waddle, who was drafted in 2021 like Smith. It would be better for the Dolphins to get a deal done with Waddle sooner rather than later, as the Dolphins have already said they envision keeping Waddle around for awhile. You can check out that story here, and the rest of the day’s round-up below. 19 hours ago Phinsider Question Of The Day: Injury Issues Edition
Photo by Michael Owens/Getty Images After reading this post, I know someone will tell me every NFL team has its share of injuries, and I, like you, am well aware of that fact but hear me out. Maybe it’s because I watch every second of every Miami Dolphins game every season. Still, does it not seem that, at least in recent years, the injury bug has derailed this team every time they look like they might have been on the cusp of finally breaking out and showing the rest of the league that the Phins are for real? Maybe it’s the homer in me, but it seems that we have more injuries than most other teams over the last few years. Either way, it's hard to argue that the rash of injuries, especially to key players late last season, seemed to derail the team heading toward the postseason. So, if we have, in fact, had more than our fair share of injuries to key players over a few seasons, the question has to come up: why? The Dolphins training staff always seems highly regarded, so it doesn’t seem like that’s an issue. The current head coach is, if anything, overly cautious when returning a player who has been injured back to the field during a game, so it’s not on him, at least not on that particular issue. You would also believe that being in South Florida and the fact that the team does most of their work outside in the oppressive heat and humidity would make them better conditioned than most other teams, especially when you combine that with the fact that they have some of the most highly regarded strength coaches. So tonight’s question is, do you think that the Miami Dolphins do, in fact, have an injury issue that exceeds the norm for the NFL, and if so, what do you think is or may be contributing to those injuries?
